What
With menu upselling, a suitable menu offer is automatically suggested when an item is selected.
Where
Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Item view > Upselling. |
With menu upselling, you can increase your revenue by offering customers attractive menu upgrades directly during item configuration.
For example, if a customer selects a single burger, they are immediately prompted to upgrade it to a full menu (including a side dish and a drink) for a small additional charge. This saves the customer time when searching and at the same time increases the average order value.
What makes the design special:
We have deliberately designed the upselling so that it is not another popup. Why? We want to make sure your guests are not annoyed by "popup fatigue" and simply click away suggestions without reading them. Instead, the offer integrates elegantly directly into the ordering flow while the customer is already configuring their item. This feels natural and offers the least resistance on the way to the shopping cart.
Setup and activation
For upselling to appear in the webshop, both the global settings and the settings on the individual item must be configured correctly.
Step A: Global activation in the webshop settings
- Navigate to Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings.
- Click on the "Item view" section.
- Find the "Upselling" area.
For the setting "Upselling of menus within the item detail page", select one of the three options:
- Deactivated: No menu suggestions are shown. This is the default setting.
- Upselling without image: The suggestion appears as text only (very clean).
- Upselling with image: The suggestion includes the image of the target menu (highest visibility).
- Click "Save for test shop".
- Click "Apply for live shop".

Step B: Requirements for the item and menu
The system only displays a suggestion when the following conditions are met:
- The selected individual item must be linked to at least one menu in the Admin.
The "No upselling" setting must be deactivated (set to false) for both the base item and the target menu. This is the default setting.

- Menu selection logic: If an item is included in multiple menus, the webshop automatically selects the menu with the lowest ID for which upselling is enabled.
The ID can be seen at the top of the address bar.

If an item appears in multiple menus, a specific menu can be prioritized. Since the webshop always uses the lowest ID, you can control this via the "No upselling" option.
Activate the "No upselling" option for all menus with lower IDs in the item management (under Admin: Item management > Item > Edit). This ensures that the webshop skips these menus and instead offers the menu with the next higher ID, until it reaches the first menu that is enabled for upselling.
Display in the webshop
As soon as a guest opens an item that is part of a menu, the upselling widget appears below the first topping selection.
- The customer sees the text "Upgrade to [menu name]".
- The additional charge for the menu upgrade is displayed (e.g. "+ €3.50").
- With a click on the "Upgrade" button, the view switches directly to the menu configuration.
Any selections already made (such as chosen extras for the burger) are automatically transferred to the menu, so the guest does not have to start over.
