Happy hour

Happy hour

What
Happy hour allows you to define time-limited special prices for specific commodity groups, such as a lunchtime pizza. This enables you to manage promotions in a targeted manner and reach customers at specific times.

Where
Admin: Marketing campaigns > Happy hour.

Delivery services often offer a lunchtime deal, such as a pizza at a special price. You can create a happy hour for this purpose. First, you should create a price group that you can use to specify the lunchtime prices for the item.

Happy hour functionality

If an order falls within the defined validity period, the happy hour prices are applied automatically. Outside the validity period, the standard price is applied.

Example: In the webshop, happy hour offers are highlighted with crossed-out prices.

1. Create price group

If no suitable price group exists yet, it must be created first.

If a suitable price group already exists, step 1.1 can be skipped.

Create a price group
Create a new price group to serve as the basis for the happy hour prices:
  1. Go to Admin: Item management > Item price groups.
  2. Click "Add price group".
  3. Create a new price group, e.g. "Happy hour".

The "Manually selectable in cash register" option allows the price group to be selected at the POS before the order is placed.

More information about the price group is available here:
https://support.get-sides.de/portal/en/kb/articles/item-price-groups.

2. Set prices for happy hour

Enter the prices for the desired items that should apply during happy hour.
  1. Go to Admin: Item management > Item prices.
  2. The column for the newly created "Happy hour" price group is displayed there.
  3. Enter the special prices for the desired items.
  4. If no price is entered for an item, the standard price is used.

Notes:
  1. Prices can only be maintained per commodity group. Select the desired commodity group from the drop-down menu at the top.
  2. As a store partner, only your own store is displayed by default. If items are maintained centrally for multiple stores, you can switch between the stores at the top.

More information about creating an item price group and adding item prices is available here: https://support.get-sides.de/portal/en/kb/articles/item-prices.

3. Create happy hour

Now create the happy hour. Here, you select the price group, sales types, stores, and commodity groups to which the happy hour should apply.
  1. Go to Admin: Marketing campaigns > Happy hour.
  2. Click "Add happy hour".
  3. Enter a name for the happy hour.
  4. Under "Price category", select the price group to be used for the happy hour, e.g. the previously created "Happy hour" price group.
  5. Under "Sales types", specify the outgoing order channels to which the happy hour should apply, e.g. "Pickup", "Delivery", "Counter sale", etc.
  6. Select the stores where it should be active.

  7. In the next section, "Items and groups", select the commodity group to which the happy hour should apply.

Happy hour can only be defined for commodity groups, not for individual items. If an item should not be included in the happy hour, simply do not enter a special price in the price level (Admin: Item management > Item prices). Leave it at the standard price instead.

  8. Now define a validity period during which the happy hour should be active. First click "Save and Continue Editing", you can then complete the "Validity" section.

  9. Open the "Validity" section.
Specify the days of the week and times at which the happy hour should apply.
Click "Add" to add the validity period.

Please note that the validity period also applies on public holidays when they fall on a day of the week specified in the happy hour. If you do not want the happy hour to apply on a public holiday, you must deactivate it for that day.

  10. Finally, click "Save"

Notes
Notes:
  1. If two valid happy hours are configured for an item, the lower happy hour price is automatically applied.

  2. Despite the lower item price, the lower happy hour price can result in a higher total shopping cart price if the option "Disable other discounts for items" is enabled.
Example: An item costs €7 with happy hour A, and additional discounts are excluded. With happy hour B, the item costs €8, but an additional €3 discount can be applied. This means the item effectively costs only €5 with happy hour B. The initially lower price of €7 can therefore result in a higher total cart price because additional discounts are disabled for this happy hour.
