What
Item filters can be used to filter products in the webshop according to specific criteria.
Where
Admin: Item management > Item filter. |
Products in the webshop can be sorted and narrowed down according to specific criteria using article filters.

What are filters?
Filters allow your customers to easily find products in your online store according to their preferences. For example, they can filter for "hot" pizzas, "large" portions or dishes with "chicken". When customers apply filters, only items that match their selection criteria are displayed.
Item filters are also known as "item tags", as they add filterable options to an item.
Difference: Filter groups and filter options
To understand how filters work, it is important to distinguish between "filter groups" and "filter options":
- Filter groups are like categories or topics for your filters. Think of them as generic terms, such as "Size", "Spiciness" or "Packaging".
- Filter options are the specific selection options within a filter group. For example, under the filter group "Size" you could have the filter options "Small", "Medium" or "Large". For "Spiciness" it could be "Mild", "Medium" or "Hot".
Note: Filter options can also be created without group membership. All filters without a group are combined in a standard group in the background.
You can have any number of filter options within a filter group, and each of your items can be assigned to any number of filter options from different groups.
How filters work (the logic)
It is helpful to understand how the system processes filters to ensure that your setup works as expected.
- Filter groups are linked with an "AND" logic: This means that for an item to appear in the results, it must fulfill the conditions of all selected filter groups. If even one filter group does not apply, the item will not be displayed.
- Filter options within a filter group are linked with an "OR" logic: If a customer selects multiple filter options within a single filter group (e.g. both "Small" and "Medium" for "Size"), an item will be displayed if it meets at least one of these selected options.
- Unselected filter groups: If a customer does not select any filter options within a particular filter group, that filter group is automatically considered "TRUE" for all items, meaning that it does not exclude any products.
Example of logic in action:
Suppose a customer filters by:
Size: "Large" OR "Medium"
Spiciness: "Mild"
Meat: "Chicken"
For an item to be displayed, it must be:
- Be large OR medium (from the "Size" group)
- AND be mild (from the "Spiciness" group)
- AND contain chicken (from the "Meat" group)
Set up filters in the administration area
The general process for setting up filters includes these steps:
1. Call up filter management
- Navigate to the area in which you manage products and their properties under Admin: Item management.
- There, search for the menu item "Item filter" (/articledata/listarticletag)
2. Create a new filter group
Click on the "Add item tag" option.
You can now either create a single filter or prepare a group.
Give your filter or group a clear and descriptive name (e.g. "Size", "Spiciness", "Nutritional needs"). This is the name your customers will see.
Save the new filter with "Save".
3. Add filter options to a filter group
- Once a filter group has been created, you can add options.
- Click on the option "Add subordinate item tag".

- Enter the "name" of the filter option (e.g. "Small", "Medium", "Large" for the "Size" group; "Mild", "Medium", "Spicy" for "Spiciness").
- Repeat this step for all necessary options within this group.
- Save each new filter option with "Save".
4. Assign filter options to your items
- Go to your area for managing "items" under Admin: Item management > Items (/articledata/listarticle).
- Edit the desired item with "Edit".
- Within the basic item data, you should find the "Item tags" area to assign "Filters" or "Attributes".

- Select all relevant options that apply to the respective item from the available filter groups and filter options. For example, a "Spicy chicken pizza" would be assigned as "Spicy" (from the "Spiciness" group) and "Chicken" (from the "Meat" group).
- Save the changes to the item with "Save".
- Repeat this for all your items.
How filters are displayed to your customers
Once you have set up your filters in the administration area, your customers will see them in your webshop, usually on the product list page or the menu page.
- Filter display: Filters are displayed in a pop-up as a drop-down menu so that customers can easily see the available filter groups (e.g. "Size", "Spiciness") and their corresponding filter options (e.g. "Small", "Medium", "Large").
- Selection: Customers can check boxes or select options within each filter group to apply their preferences. They can select multiple options within a group and options from different groups.
- Real-time filtering: The product list is automatically updated as soon as customers select or deselect filter options and then click "Apply" to apply the filter.

- Filter display: Various options for filter display are available in a separate area of the webshop settings in the administration area, under Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Search & filter > Filter.

By effectively setting up filters, you can significantly improve the shopping experience for your customers and make your webshop more user-friendly and efficient.
