Pausing of delivery portal orders (close portals)

Pausing of delivery portal orders (close portals)

What
Delivery portal orders can be temporarily paused in the POS during periods of high demand. To do this, the delivery portals are closed for a predefined period and then reopened automatically or manually.

Where
Admin: Store management > Stores > Edit > Settings > Delivery and take away settings > Maximum number of open orders (for deliveries), until the option of switching off the portal.
POS: Order overview.

Pausing delivery portal orders

In the Admin interface, you can configure a limit for open delivery portal orders. Once this order limit is reached, the "Close portals" option automatically appears in the POS, allowing the connected delivery portals to be temporarily taken offline.

Activation in the Admin

The "Close portals" option can be configured under Admin: Store > Stores > Edit > Settings > Delivery and take away settings > Maximum number of open orders (for deliveries), until the option of switching off the portal.

Enter a value greater than zero. Once the order limit is reached, employees can temporarily take the delivery portals offline directly from the POS.

This setting applies to connected delivery portals such as Lieferando, Wolt, and Uber Eats.

Pausing in the POS (cash register)

In the POS, employees can decide independently whether they want to pause the delivery portals.

To do this, they select one of the predefined time intervals, for example 15 or 30 minutes. All delivery portals that support this feature (e.g. Lieferando) automatically receive a command to close the store.

The store is reopened on the delivery portal either automatically after the selected time has expired or manually by clicking the "Open now" button displayed next to the closing time. Both the closing time and the button appear automatically after the "Close portals" button has been selected.

There may be delays between closing the delivery portals in the POS and the actual deactivation on the respective delivery portal. These delays depend on the individual delivery portal and cannot be influenced.

Temporarily pausing delivery portals for a short period can help reduce peak workloads in the kitchen or among delivery drivers.

While a delivery portal is paused, customers cannot place new orders through that portal.

This allows existing delivery orders to be processed more efficiently without receiving additional portal orders that could lead to longer delivery times.

Experience shows that short pauses of around 30 minutes are usually sufficient to reduce peak workloads.

Before deactivating the delivery portals, employees should consider the expected return time of the drivers and carefully evaluate whether a pause is necessary.

To use the "Close portals" option, the user requires either the "Admin" permission or the "dashboard.editPortaldata" permission. Our support team can enable this permission. Afterwards, it can be assigned to the appropriate users.

Adjusting delivery portal closing times

The time intervals available when manually pausing a delivery portal can be individually configured.

You can find this setting under Admin: Global settings > Global store settings > Other settings > Store settings > Closing times for delivery portals.

Here you can define four time values in minutes (e.g. 15, 20, 25, 30 minutes). These values will then appear as selectable options whenever a delivery portal is temporarily closed from the dashboard or the order overview.
