Item view in the POS with square or rectangular tiles
What
In the cash register (POS) you can specify whether categories and products are displayed as square or rectangular tiles.
Where
POS: Settings > Square tiles. |
Introduction
In the cash register you can specify whether categories and products are displayed as square or rectangular tiles. This allows you to customize the view to your operation, screen size, and number of items to display.
By default, rectangular tiles are displayed.
Square tiles generally provide space for more products and categories on the screen. Rectangular tiles provide more space for labeling.
Prerequisites
The feature must be enabled in your SIDES environment. If you cannot see this setting in the cash register, please contact your SIDES representative or support.
Set tile shape
- In the cash register, go to the section where categories and products are displayed, e.g. "Counter sales".
- Open "Settings" in the cash register.

- Go to the "Orderlist" section.
- Select the desired tile shape:
- Square tiles: When you enable the "Square tiles" option, more tiles can be displayed at the same time. You see in the background how the tile shape changes.
- Rectangular tiles: When you disable the "Square tiles" option, rectangular tiles are displayed again. This provides more space for labeling individual tiles.

- Check the display of categories and products in the cash register. Adjust the selection again if needed.
Comparison of tile shapes
Square tiles
Square tiles are particularly suitable when many products or categories should be quickly visible, for example with extensive menus or fast service processes.
Note:
If square tiles are enabled, item images cannot be used.
Rectangular tiles
Rectangular tiles are particularly suitable when product or category names need more space and should be displayed clearly.
Tips for everyday work
- The selection only affects the display of tiles, not your products, prices, or categories.
- After making changes, you should check the setting directly at the cash register before using it across your operation.
- For long names, we recommend checking readability together with the cash register employee.
- The setting is only saved locally. If you use multiple cash registers, you must make the setting at each cash register.
Frequently asked questions
- Will changing the setting modify products or categories?
No. Only the display in the cash register (desktop POS) changes.
- Can I switch between tile shapes at any time?
Yes. You can change the selection at any time in the cash register settings.
- Why can I not see the setting?
The feature may not yet be enabled in your environment. Please contact your SIDES representative or support.
