Settings for the Meta Pixel ID (Facebook Pixel ID) in the webshop

What
The Facebook Pixel ID is a unique identifier that connects your webshop with your Meta advertising account. It is used to track user behavior (such as page views or purchases) and to optimize ads on Facebook.

Where
Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Tracking.

Overview

This guide explains how to set up Facebook tracking for different webshop versions:
  1. Webshop version 2: Simple integration via the Facebook Pixel ID
  2. Webshop version 1: Integration via Facebook Pixel ID and Facebook Conversion API

Instructions for webshop version 2

In Webshop Version 2, tracking is handled exclusively via the Facebook Pixel ID.
No additional settings are required. The collected data can be analyzed via the Meta Business Manager.

Finding and entering the Pixel ID in webshop version 2

Procedure:
  1. The Pixel ID can be found in the "Meta Business Manager" under "Data sources".

  2. Enter the Pixel ID in the webshop settings under Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Webshop version 2 > Tracking > Facebook Pixel ID.

  3. Click on "Save for test shop" to apply the settings, and then apply the changes to the live shop as well.

  4. The Facebook Pixel ID is now ready for use in Webshop version 2.

Instructions for webshop version 1

Facebook’s best practices recommend using the Facebook Conversion API (Conversion Access Token) in combination with the Facebook Pixel to track marketing data in Webshop version 1. This ensures that website events are created as effectively as possible. The collected data can be analyzed via the Meta Business Manager.

Finding and entering the Pixel ID in webshop version 1

Procedure:
  1. The Pixel ID can be found in the "Meta Business Manager" under "Data sources".
  2. Enter the Pixel ID in the webshop settings under Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Webshop version 1 > Tracking > Facebook Pixel ID.

If you have a webshop without your own administrative access, please provide the Pixel ID to our support team so we can enter it for you if you want to use this Facebook feature.

Conversion API for webshop version 1

To use the Conversion API, the following requirements are needed:
  1. Pixel ID
If a Pixel is already set up for the website, we recommend using the same Pixel ID for both browser and server events.

  2. Meta Business Manager
The Meta Business Manager helps advertisers integrate Facebook marketing activities within their business and with external partners.
If you do not yet have a Meta Business Manager account, follow this guide to create one:
https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1710077379203657?id=180505742745347 (the language can be changed at the bottom of the page).

  3. Access Key (Access Token)
We recommend generating the access key via the Meta Business Manager.

Creating the Facebook Conversion Access Key (Access Token) for webshop version 1

The access key must be generated first so that it can be passed as a parameter in every API call.

Procedure:
  1. Open the "Meta Business Manager".
  2. Click on "Data sources" and select the pixel you want to implement.
  3. Click on the "Settings" tab.
  4. Scroll to the "Conversion API" section and, under "Set up manually", click the link "Generate access token
    ".

    NotesNote
The "Generate access token" link is only visible to users with developer permissions for the business. It is hidden from other users, even if you have admin rights.

  5. Copy the generated access key and enter it in the admin in the field "Facebook Conversion Access Token" (Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Webshop version 1 > Tracking > Facebook Conversion Access Token).

If you have a webshop without your own administrative access, please provide the access key to our support team so we can enter it for you if you want to use this Facebook feature.

Creating the Facebook Conversion Test Event Code for webshop version 1

The Facebook Conversion Test Event Code allows you to verify whether server events are being received correctly by Facebook. The code consists of numbers and letters.

Procedure:
  1. Open the "Meta Business Manager".
  2. Click on "Data sources" and select your Pixel ID.
  3. Click "Test events" and copy the displayed Test Event Code.

  4. Paste the copied Test Event Code into the admin in the field "Facebook Conversion Test Event Code" (Admin: Webshop & App > Webshop settings > Webshop version 1 > Tracking > Facebook Conversion Test Event Code).

  5. Click "Save for test shop" and check whether the connection to the Facebook Conversion API works. For live operation, clear the field "Facebook Conversion Test Event Code" beforehand.

NotesNote:
The "Facebook Conversion Test Event Code" field is for testing purposes only. This field must be cleared when sending usage data to production.

Events sent with the Test Event Code are not discarded. They are included in the Meta Business Manager and used for targeting and ad measurement purposes.
