If the touchscreen function of a Colormetrics-/Colometrix touchscreen no longer responds, the issue is often caused by a Windows update, a disabled driver, or an interrupted USB connection. The following steps can be used for troubleshooting:
1. Check HID Touchscreen in Device Manager
Windows updates may disable or overwrite the touchscreen driver.
The status can be checked as follows:
- Right-click on the Windows logo
- Open Device Manager
- Open the “Human Interface Devices” section
- Search for “HID-compliant touch screen”
If the device is disabled:
- Right-click on the entry
- Select “Enable device”
2. Reinstall Touchscreen Driver
If the driver is faulty:
- Right-click on “HID-compliant touch screen”
- Select “Uninstall device”
- Restart the computer
After restarting, Windows will often reinstall the driver automatically.
3. Check Windows Touch Settings
The touch settings can be checked in Windows:
- Open Control Panel
- Select Tablet PC Settings
- Click “Setup” or “Calibrate”
4. Check USB Connection
On many Colormetrics devices, the touchscreen function is controlled through a separate USB connection.
The following points should be checked:
- Check whether the USB cable is connected properly
- Test a different USB port
- Check whether the cable is damaged
5. Enable Windows Touch Service
Some Windows updates may disable required services.
The service can be checked as follows:
- Open services.msc using the Windows search
- Search for the following service:
- “TabletInputService”
- or “Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service”
- Start or enable the service
6. Install Manufacturer Drivers
If the above steps do not resolve the issue:
- Reinstall the latest Colormetrics driver package
- Depending on the model, the following touchscreen drivers are commonly used:
- EETI
- eGalax
If the issue still persists, it is recommended to contact technical support or the device manufacturer.
