Your first day with SIDES

In short

This is how your first day with SIDES works, and every day after it: from your cash float in the morning to the cash balance in the evening. You start at the till.

The key rules at a glance

  • Work through the go-live checklist first. Germany only: if SIDES is your main till, the TSE must be active.
  • Stay logged in to the till while you take orders. Otherwise orders from Lieferando or Thuisbezorgd don't arrive.
  • Balance the cash register every evening. Otherwise the transactions of several days end up in one cash balance.
  • Settle open tables and cash differences before you balance the cash register. Afterwards you can't change the transactions.

Morning: open the till

Before the first order, check that your cash float is booked in the till:

  1. Log in to the till.
  2. Open Cash register info > Edit.
  3. Compare the Cash balance with the float in your cash drawer.

Result: Both match. On your first day, book the float first, see Cash register pre-balance (the private deposit described there only applies to sole proprietors; otherwise ask your tax adviser).

During the day: orders and delivery platforms

At the till you take orders at the counter, at the table, for delivery and for pickup, see Get to know the till. Check the Order overview regularly for platform orders that still need processing. If the kitchen is overloaded, pause the delivery platforms for a short time:

  1. Log in to the till.
  2. Open the Order overview.
  3. Click Close portals.
  4. Choose the duration, for example 30 minutes.

Result: Supported platforms such as Lieferando take no orders until the time runs out or you click Open now.

Close portals only appears once the number of open delivery orders set for your store in the admin area is reached, and only with the right permission. If it doesn't appear, ask Sid. Details: Pausing delivery portal orders.

Evening: balance the cash register

This is how you compare your cash with the cash balance in the evening:

  1. Log in to the till.
  2. Count the cash in the cash drawer.
  3. If it differs from the Cash balance in Cash register info, check the transactions and post the difference in the Cashbook.

  4. Click Cash balance > Complete.
  5. Resolve every message, for example open tables.

  6. Under Bank deposit, enter what goes to the bank.

  7. Under Closing balance, use the Coin counter to record the float that stays in the till.

  8. Click Apply.
    Click Apply.
  9. Click Balance the cash register and confirm.

Result: The day is closed. Details: Balance the cash register.

Automated cash balance: for tills without cash, SIDES can create the cash balance by itself every day if nothing is open, no employee is logged in and the cash balance is zero. If it fails, reschedule it with Schedule again, see Automated cash balance.

Review the day in the admin area

This is how you see how your day went:

  1. Log in to the admin area.
  2. Open Statistics > Daily closing report.
  3. Open the Revenue & operations section.
    Open the Revenue & operations section.

Result: You see the day's orders and sales. Your cash balances are under Accounting > Cash balance.
